Obviously, I have spent some time away from this blog. Let me explain why.
The day after Christmas, I fell when I was out running. As I slid across the sidewalk, my fingers caught on an upturned portion of the concrete and bent back. Let’s just say that it didn’t feel good.
Surprisingly, x-ray and MRI did not show a break or a tear. I was in an astronomical amount of pain, and it was hard for me to both write and type. That is what originally caused me to stop posting.
Over the next couple of months, the pain didn’t decrease. I went back to the doctor in March, and my hand was still so swollen that he had to do a double take on the date of injury. This caused him to run some bloodwork, which showed that I likely have an autoimmune disorder. The one that he and my rheumatologist suspect is not one that I wish to have, but unfortunately that’s not up to me. Ever since, I have been navigating the overseas military healthcare system in order to try to pinpoint a diagnosis. I should finally find out which autoimmune disorder I have later on this month.
Over the past few weeks, the swelling in my hand has finally started to come down. I can type reasonably well again, and the pain is persistent, yet bearable. With some breaks here and there, I’m finally comfortable enough to restart my blog.
Thank you all for hanging with me during this time. I’m hoping that my hand continues to heal so that I can share my thoughts on my favorite reads!
